At the heart of any Fire Prevention Program is an adopted fire code and related standards. It is from the adopted fire code and the adopted standards that the Fire Prevention Division derives its authority. Codes and standards establish minimum requirements, but should not prevent or discourage someone from exceeding the minimum requirement.
Inspections for code compliance are conducted when a new building is erected or occupied, a code violation complaint is filed, or by request from a building owner or occupant. After a request is received the Fire Marshal or his designated inspector will conduct the inspection as soon as practical. Typically within a few days depending on the work load.
