Responsibilities
Primary Responsibility
Water Production is responsible for the treatment of water for citizens of Alice and surroundings.

Other Responsibilities
Other general responsibilities include:
  • Provide safe drinking water - The Water Production facility is regulated and monitored quarterly and annually by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assure compliance.
  • Monitor Demand / Pressure - Demand and pressure are constantly monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by the operator on duty. This is done to meet the demands of the consumer and maintain line pressure for general use and fire protection.
  • Facility Maintenance - The Water Production facility was erected in 1964. It has gone through three major renovations and it is designed to produce 12 million gallons of water per day. The plant uses raw surface water as the source. The water is transported through 20" and 30" pipelines from Lake Corpus Christi to Lake Findley. Here, the water settles and is stored for future use. Lake Findly's capacity is approximately a three-day supply. The water is then transported through a 20" pipeline to the Water Production facility where it is stored in a seven million gallon holding pond. The water is then gravity-flowed through the process where chemicals are added and rapid-mixed for even mixture. Disinfection, flocculation, settlement-clarification, and filtration are the final steps. The finished water is transported to a 1.5 million gallon ground storage tank where it awaits to be discharged via high service pumps to distribution and the consumer for general use and fire protection.
  • Distribution - Distribution consists of miles of 2", 4", 6", 8", 10", 12", 16", and 20" pipelines throughout the City. Three elevated water towers hold 500,000 gallons each. This distribution is maintained 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by City workforce and preventive maintenance contractors.
