About the Patrol and Traffic Division
Patrol and Traffic
The Alice Police Department takes great pride in the Patrol and Traffic Division. It is filled with highly trained officers who strive to provide an exceptional level of service to the citizens of Alice as well as its visitors. The backbone of the department, the patrol officers of the Alice Police Department exhibit professionalism and a high level of expertise in the work they perform daily.

The fleet of the Alice Police Department has recently received a new look. After considering the input of all members of the department, a new color scheme was chosen. The new cars are dark blue with a representation of the Alice Police Patch on the door, as well as other graphics. The department is excited about the new look and is pleased with the reception it has received from the public.

Patrol and Traffic Shifts and Functions
Alice Police Department Patrol and Traffic Division is currently comprised of three shifts. Patrol officers typically work 10-hour shifts, allowing for three consecutive days off each week.

The Patrol Division performs numerous functions. A patrol officer conducts traffic enforcement, investigates traffic accidents, and is the initial responder to all reported crime. The patrol officer conducts the initial investigation of a crime and then prepares a detailed report that is then transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division. Patrol officers receive training in DWI enforcement, evidence collection, search and seizure and arrest procedures.

When not responding to calls for service, patrol officers actively patrol assigned sectors.

Patrol and Traffic Technology
Alice PD strives to provide its patrol officers with the latest technology to assist with catching criminals. All patrol cars are equipped with mobile data terminals (MDTs) and audio and video recording systems. The MDTs are a valuable tool that is utilized for mapping and report writing. The MDTs allow for the entire report writing process to be completely paperless.

The recording systems aid in the prosecution of arrests and allow the officer to have detailed information for later retrieval.
